One month

Shella May has been home with us a month now, but it feels like she has always been here. She is really fitting in nicely and we all love her so much. Here's our month in review.
Sleeping: I'll start with the topic that makes or breaks a person, sleeping. She has been a great sleeper since day one. She has always slept in her own room, in her own bed. She falls asleep quickly and sleeps 10-12 hours a night. She doesn't wake during the night ever and wakes up when we wake her, usually has a smile on her face. This is all good since I feel we have lost enough sleep with Lance's sleeping habits.
Eating: She loves a lot of foods we have given her to try. She will try everything on her plate, but usually doesn't eat the vegetables. Seems to be a common theme with our kids. Currently some of her favorite foods are; roast beef, baked beans, and pizza. Of course she loves her rice and bananas also.
Meltdowns:Most meltdowns occur on weekends. Her typical meltdown is withdrawal. She gets very quiet and kind of fades away. At this point we go and pick her up and hold her. Sometimes she cries, other times she just sits in a trance like state. Her average time of meltdowns is an hour. She doesn't say anything during them or do anything except maybe cry. Then suddenly she will look at us and just be done with it. We talk to her the entire time and rock her. Tonight we had a major breakthrough because at bedtime she told Ryan the cause of her meltdown she had this afternoon. She also told him that it helps her when we hold her and talk to her during them.
Bonding:We are all developing good bonds with her and they are all unique. She sees me the most and I am the one she talks to the most now. Ryan of course is the fun parent and she still loves give him hugs all the time. Liam is her best friend, they even fight like siblings that have lived together forever. He can make her laugh the hardest and he was the first one she talked to. Lance is very much her big brother and those boys that want to date her better watch out someday. He is always looking after her and making sure she is safe. When she is in a new place or with new people, she comes to Lance and grabs his hand. (The way Lance is growing, he will be the tallest in the family soon, maybe that is why he looks like a protector).
School: She has been in school for 3 weeks now and loves it. She likes learning new things and enjoys going every day. We are all still trying to figure out what she knows academically and as she begins to talk more it will get easier. She is still working on making friends at school, but they have a busy day so there isn't too much time for just hanging out with friends. She loves it when we see her classmates outside of school and always yells "hi".
Overall everything is going great, knock on wood. She seems to be adapting to our lifestyle well and we seem to be meeting her needs. Thank you to all of you for your love, prayers and support.

Hey you guys! It is hard to believe it has been a month, it seemed forever before you picked up Shella May and now that seems a distant memory. What wonderful progress she has made, Trudy and I beleive she hit the lottery when she came into the family. We all love each other so much and what a perfect environment to raise a child. Keep up the great job of rainsing these children. Hugs from Seattle and Redmond. Uncle T and Aunty T

Thanks for the update. It sounds like things are going great! It does seem like they have been a part of the family forever, doesn't it? God is good!

I loved reading (and rereading this post). It's great how each member of the family meets a need for her and the roles are simultaneously distinct and overlapping and complementary. It sounds like, challenges and all, you're gelling nicely as a family.
